SERV Instructor Training programme
The SERV Instructor training programme was organized from 4th to 7th June 2017 in the conference hall of Disaster Preparedness Training Hall, Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch, Bhubaneswar. The porgramme was inaugurated with a formal lighting of lamp by Dr. Gyanabrata Mohanty, Honorary Secretary, IRCS-OSB and attended Major Dr. Kalpana Das, YRCO-cum-Honorary Joint Secretary, IRCS-OSB & Smt. Lipika Das, OAS, Secretary, District Red Cross Branch, Khordha as Guest of Honour and expressed that, SERV Volunteers will play the vital role at the time of any emergencies situations. Besides she drew the attention of the participants by expressing the views, how one can reduce the vulnerabilities of disaster. According to her volunteers are the most powerful agents of change in society and they can too spread awareness about any Social Development aspects.
The aims of the SERV Volunteers are:-
- To provide immediate relief and response to the disaster affected communities before the government and other agencies arrive.
- To reduce the vulnerabilities of communities by training them in First Aid, Search & Rescue, Hygiene Promotion etc.
- Conduct vulnerability and capacity assessment of their own communities.
- Support any other identified social issues that contribute to the development of the communities.
- Facilitating linkage between the Community and Government Programmes.
50 nos SERV Instructors were trained in this training programme, out of 50 participants, 25nos of volunteers newly added in Red Cross as a SERV instructor from Khordha District who were selected by the District Administration & 25 volunteers were from Khordha, Puri, Jagatsingpur District for the above said programme.
