Social Service Camp on Rath Yatra
On the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch has organised a Social Service Camp on Rath Yatra, at Puri by involving the volunteers from different sections of Red Cross in association with District Red Cross Branch, Puri. Hon’ble Minister, School & Mass Education, Science & Technology, Odisha and Chairman, Working Committee, Junior Red Cross Shri Badri Narayan Patra inaugurated the Social Service Camp as the Chief Guest and suggested to work in a collective manner for the smooth management for First Aid Camps, Grand Road Cleaning programmes etc. Hon’ble Minister, Higher Education, Odisha and Chairman, Working Committee, Youth Red Cross Shri Ananta Das joined as Guest of Honour. During his address he expressed the important role of Red Cross and its volunteers during the Rath Yatra. Dr. Gyanbrata Mohanty, Honorary Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch extended the welcome address and highlighted the activities of the camp. On 25th June 2017 Volunteers rendered stretcher services near the cordon area. Water sprayer units with volunteers were also positioned at Bada Danda near crowded areas and provided water sprinkling service to the pilgrims which made relief from the intense heat and humidity. In addition Two Ambulance with attendance were also provided emergency services in the Grand Road. Emergency Health center was also operated at Utkal Hindi Vidyapitha with temporary hospital & doctors
Besides, in collaboration with Govt. of Odisha, IRCS-OSB opened 10 First Aid centers at Grand Road, Puri including Utkal Hindi Bidya Pitha, Jagannath Ballav Matha, Bagadia Dharmasala, Balagandi High School, Gundicha Mandir, Suchana Kendra, Palishree Mela, District Headquarter Hospital, Gopabandhu Ayurbedic College, Control Room under the supervision of Dr. Gyanabrata Mohanty, Honorary Secretary, IRCS-OSB and Major Dr. Kalpana Das, Youth Red Cross Officer, Odisha where First Aid services were provided to 1586 causalities.
After the departure of Chariots to Gundicha Temple volunteers and Life Members of IRCS-OSB undertake the noble endeavor of Bada Danda cleaning programme.
300 YRC volunteers and Counsellors from colleges, Shelter volunteers, Red Cross Members join in the camp and provided health and care services to pilgrims and people during the Car Festival.
